What’s New for 2025

The Veterans Crisis Line continues to expand access. In 2025, Veterans, service members, and families can connect in more ways than ever:

  • Call: Dial 988, then press 1
  • Text: 838255
  • Chat: VeteransCrisisLine.net/chat
  • TTY (Hearing Impaired): Dial 711, then 988
  • Spanish: Dial 988, then press 2

You don’t have to wait until there’s a life-threatening emergency. Family members and caregivers are encouraged to reach out if they see a Veteran in distress.

Who Answers

Trained responders — many Veterans or with military ties — who understand the unique challenges of service, transition, and post-service life.

What to Expect

  • Immediate, confidential support
  • Risk assessment and safety planning
  • Practical resources for you or your family
  • Warm handoffs to local VA or community care when needed

You Are Not Alone

Invisible wounds are real. Many Veterans navigate PTSD, depression, anxiety, substance use, and suicidal thoughts. If you or someone you love is struggling, help is available right now. The Veterans Crisis Line is part of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and is open day and night — every day of the year.

When Should I Call?

You don’t have to be suicidal to reach out. Call if you feel overwhelmed, hopeless, or if you’re worried about a loved one. I did — and that’s why I’m here, sharing this with you.

  • You feel overwhelmed, hopeless, or in emotional distress
  • You’re worried about a Veteran or service member
  • You need guidance on next steps, safety planning, or resources

If You’re in Immediate Danger

Call 911 and clearly state there is a mental health emergency. If possible, request a crisis-trained response.
