Thousands of VA Employees Set to Resign in September — What It Could Mean for Your Care and Claim

🇺🇸 Need to Know: A newly released list obtained through the Freedom of Information Act shows more than 10,000 VA employees have been approved for resignation under a special federal separation program.

The nonprofit newsroom The War Horse obtained the data through a FOIA request and published a searchable list of all VA positions approved for deferred resignation this fall. These include roles from administrative staff to health care providers and even crisis line responders — positions veterans depend on for claims, appeals, and ongoing treatment.

While the Department of Veterans Affairs maintains that only “non-mission-critical” positions were approved, the data appears to show that some critical positions were initially included. After media inquiries, the VA reportedly reversed a few of those approvals, particularly within the crisis line and clinical support teams.

This isn’t about speculation — it’s about planning ahead. If you have a VA C&P exam, need mental health services, or are in the middle of a claim or appeal, understanding how workforce shifts might affect timelines is crucial.
